De Lijn is at the start of one of the most important transformations in its history: the electrification of its bus fleet. In this context, data are crucial to ensure a smooth transition.
Sven Croon, Manager ICT & Data, who is responsible for this, explains our data strategy and ambitions in this interview in De Tijd.
De Lijn and data, a strategy and concrete use cases
Information is essential
One of the main reasons why De Lijn relies so heavily on data is to better serve the customer, albeit from a slightly different angle than many other companies, namely with a social purpose.
We have to ensure that Flemings can move around in a sustainable way.
While other companies often use data to sell products or services, we use it primarily to better inform travelers.
Additional skills
Finding people with the right skills is difficult. If you're working on this project, you need to be able to translate complex algorithms into something that everyone in the company understands.
De Lijn can't do everything with its employees; from time to time, it needs specific short-term expertise in order to move forward quickly. That's why De Lijn works with Micropole for electrification-related IT and data projects.
This is a project with a strong social value.
It is therefore essential for De Lijn to fully own its data. Together, we're helping to build the transport of tomorrow.
